At Dismas House we have a formal dinner every weekday night that is attended by house residents and community members alike.
Volunteers arrive in time to prepare dinner for 6:30 and then sit down enjoy a meal with the members of the household. This is a time for fellowship and sharing where everyone can give of themselves and learn from one another as well.
If you would like to be added to the dinner calendar, e-mail our volunteer coordinator at

There are many opportunities for tutoring at Dismas House. People who come to live at the house are often studying to earn their GED, take the ACT, or pass other standardized tests.
Residents can also benefit from guidance in basic computer skills such as creating a word document, how to effectively navigate the internet, and filling out job applications. All tutoring can be done at the resident computer lab located right here at the house.

We have a new garden here at Dismas House and there are many different ways to help out.
Groups or individuals can come and help with planting in the spring or turning-in in the fall. If you have gardening expertise we can always use tips for growing and ideas for making the most of our yield!

This old house can almost always use some kind of repair or maintenance. This is a great project idea for groups that would like to provide a much needed service. Many groups have “adopted” a resident room and given it a complete renovation, including repairs, painting and new furniture.

Members of the community have so much to give Dismas house, even if they are just sharing something they like to do.
The possibilities to volunteer in this way are as diverse as the people who walk through our doors.
Come play music or facilitate sing-alongs, help residents with budgeting and finances or give a tutorial on your favorite pastime. |

Donations are a big part of what keeps Dismas House running. Some of our regularly needed items are towels and washcloths, twin sheets, blankets, pillows and toiletries for resident welcome baskets, gently used men’s clothing and various furniture and accessories for rooms. Volunteers can make donations themselves, help to locate donation resources, or assistant in the retrieval of some of our regular food and item donations. |
