| Catholic HEART comes to Dismas, June 2010 |

Flood Relief Volunteers Founded in 1993 by Youth Ministers Steve and Lisa Walker, Catholic HEART is a week-long camp for young Catholics to engage in meaningful service and evangelical programs. Originally located in Orlando, Florida, Catholic HEART now runs camps in over 40 cities across the country, including our very own Nashville.
On Monday and Tuesday, June 28th and 29th, Dismas House welcomed a group of six young volunteers, hailing from Virginia, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma. For two solid days, Nikki, Meghan, Casey, Lucas, Francesca and Jess worked tirelessly to help repair some of the destruction in our flood ravaged basement. The group was eager to get started right away, so we put them task restyling our water damaged clothing closet, which we had opted to move up to the second floor. After lugging armload after armload of clothing donations up two flights of stairs, this steadfast group got right to work organizing the mountain of shirts, pants, sweaters and suits. Dedicated and thorough, they sorted every last item by style and size! With a beautiful new clothing room in place, the crew headed back down to the basement to tackle the damaged closet. They cleared it out, hosed it down, mopped it up and came back for more. Three of their number even showcased their range of skills by picking up the power tools to knock out the damaged shelves and install new ones. With yet another refurbished room in the house we were able to bring our food stores over and establish a brand new pantry! Thank you to the members of Catholic HEART work camp, whose unwavering energy and effort has helped us to come so far toward putting our flood worn house back in order. This summer, Dismas House of Nashville was offered the opportunity to host a group of volunteers from the Catholic HEART camp based at Father Ryan High School, and we gladly accepted! Now we couldn’t be more thankful that we did.
