This fall, Dismas welcomed Vanderbilt Senior Deno Saclarides into the fold. An Ingram Scholar at Vanderbilt, Deno received a two month service research grant to spend his summer in the Republic of Georgia! In his time there, he worked to help reform the country's devastated health care system by developing a National Nursing Database. Learn more about Deno's experiences in the Republic of Georgia from his personal blog at http://saclarides.wordpress.com/
Deno has a long history of involvement and dedication to Dismas House. As a Sophomore at Vanderbilt Deno was a founding member of Grassroots, a student organization that connects university students with the city’s hungry, homeless, and poor. Since its inception in 2008, Grassroots has been committed to supporting Dismas House- providing immeasurable resources to our program and enriching our community through volunteerism. Deno is also a founding member of the student team working to successfully launch Triple Thread Apparel, a local T-shirt printing social enterprise dedicated to employing Dismas House residents and supporting the Dismas program. In his final year at Vanderbilt, Deno is completing a double major in neuroscience and Spanish, and is currently applying to medical schools. We are thrilled to have Deno with us this year! |
